On perceived deficits, personal branding, and what actually happens when you surround yourself with people that challenge you (+a behind the scenes look at my first in-person event: Off The Record.)
Excellent insights as always! I always say that a personal brand is what people say about when you’re not in the room, which pairs nicely with how they experience you.
And how I wish I lived in New York so I could come to one of these events! Any chance for online events in future? 😉
Thank you so much for the shoutout, Ashley! What a fun surprise! And congrats on your first in-person event!
I'm going to be thinking about this line for a long time: "What surfaced was consistent across almost every woman in the room: there was a gap between how these women described themselves and how others experienced them. Their words weren’t inaccurate, they were just smaller in their own telling than who they were in reality."
SO wild to hear/see how often women minimize their own contributions or identities—I 100% do the same and am working on it.
When I realized that most of the time people think what you're doing is bigger/more impressive than you do, it gave me permission to be a little more bold.

I agree with you!!! That's definitely what a brand is. I don't think I'll do online events but certainly online workshops :) Come to NYC!
My sister in Christ, I’ll be flying for over 24 hours to NYC! 🤣
LOL!!! Okay, maybe not! Back to the drawing board.
Congratulations on hosting your first in-person event! I'm interested in hearing more about that branding exercise - sounds like it was GOOD.
Thank you so much Leslie! Off The Record follows Chatham House Rules, so the exercise lives there 😉
It will be one of my go tos in the future though!
Love love love all of this!! The photos are 👏🏼

Thank you!!! And you’re welcome, I love surprises.
Also, it helps to know it’s not just you :) it’s a very normal thing that we *can* change.
Still beaming from it, thank you Ash!
